While the scientific community has reached a consensus on the issue of climate change, a recent Gallup Poll shows 41% of Americans believe reports of climate change are exaggerated by the media.

Where's the disconnect?

Pressure on the media to present a "balanced" report on the topic?
Perhaps the incentive is financial?
“"It's difficult to make a man understand something when his paycheck depends on his not understanding it."
~ Upton Sinclair
Who stands to lose financially? The oil and coal industries come to mind.
Why are Republican's more likely to believe the threat of climate change is exaggerated by the media? Are political donations and lobbying by oil and coal influencing the actions of politicians. Are politics and greed overshadowing the best interests of all life on Earth?
